Father’s Day is celebrated annually across the globe to honor our dads and appreciate their presence in our lives. On this special day, people acknowledge the sacrifices their fathers—whether biological dads, stepfathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, or guardians—have made to shape their future.
A Brief History of Father’s Day
It was organised by Sonora Smart Dodd, who was inspired to honour her father, William Jackson Smart, a Civil War veteran and a single parent who raised six children.
Dodd’s campaign for Father’s Day gained momentum, and in 1924, President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea of a national day to honour fathers. However, it was not until 1966 that President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation designating the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day.
June Is Men’s Mental Health Month with Father Day
Along with Father’s Day, June is Men’s Mental Health Month. Hence it is verry important to remember that the men in our lives need support and a shoulder to lean on as well. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, men are more likely to die from suicide.

Events For Father’s Day In Las Vegas
On June 16th, there will be a Father’s Day BBQ at Trigono Hills Park. There will be a splashpad, so bring swim gear. It is also potluck style, so you must bring an item to attend.
Another event for Father’s Day in Las Vegas is with the City of Henderson. They will be hosting a free “Father’s Day Out,” at the Henderson Multigenerational Activity Pool.
The Composers Room will host a Swing it Girls- Father’s Day Celebration on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tickets start at $10 and can be found here.
